Ecobeton treatments are not only for new-build. The Calvene bridge shows the other half of the story: conserving and restoring an ageing structure. Carbonation had advanced through the concrete cover, corroding the reinforcement and pushing off the cover - the classic spalling cycle.
After repair, the deck was treated with Evercrete Vetrofluid. Penetrating up to four centimetres into the concrete, it re-densifies the matrix, consolidates weakened surface layers and blocks the ingress of water and carbon dioxide that drives carbonation - protecting the repair and the surrounding original concrete alike.

Project facts
- Location: Calvene (VI), Italy (2005)
- Designer: Eng. E. Talledo
- Contractor: Cosfara SpA (VI)
- Ecobeton solution: Anti-degradation waterproofing of the deck with Evercrete Vetrofluid
What this means for UK projects
The UK has thousands of post-war concrete bridges at exactly this stage of carbonation. Repair the damage, then protect the whole element - see our concrete repair system.
