Cimolais Bridge: ANAS Specifies Vetrofluid for an Alpine Deck

2006 - freeze-thaw and de-icing salt protection for a mountain bridge

Alpine bridges age faster than almost any other structure: repeated freeze-thaw cycles and heavy winter salting drive water and chlorides into the deck, and the damage compounds year on year. For the Cimolais bridge, ANAS - Italy's national road authority - wanted a waterproofing treatment that would also protect the concrete slab itself.

The answer was Evercrete Vetrofluid, applied to the deck by Impresa Monti SpA. Rather than relying solely on a surface barrier, Vetrofluid reacts within the concrete to close the pore network, making the slab intrinsically more water-resistant and consolidating the surface against scaling.
