Catania Calcio Sports Centre: Pavishield and Ercole on a Concrete Deck

2010 - 1,000 m2 a day with a 1 mm trafficable overlay

The suspended slab of Catania Calcio's new sports centre needed two things: protection of the fresh concrete, and a hard-wearing finish that could go on fast. Ecobeton supplied both.

First, Evercrete Pavishield was applied as an anti-evaporation curing treatment. Beyond curing, it prevents surface saponification and leaves an ideal substrate for a bonded overlay. Then Ercole, Ecobeton's low-thickness cementitious coating, was trowelled on in two coats with a rubber spatula. Ercole is fluid and easy to work - a crew can finish around 1,000 square metres in a day - yet it is waterproof, reaches 45 MPa at 7 days, resists abrasion and is trafficable at just 1 mm thickness.
